Transmission Help

Help
I have a 96 S320 140.000 miles
8 weeks ago the transmission started to slip. I had the car towed to a local indy for repair, that was 5 weeks ago. I was told the transmission has been in and out about 6 times by 2 different shops (my shop had it taken to another shop after they could not repair it). Now I was told the trouble is that the transmission locks up when going into reverse. Whats so different about this transmission that 2 shops are having trouble.

They probably don't want to give you the bad news that the transmission requires a complete rebuild and that you will be out of pocket by some great amount of $$$$.

sounds like the two shops cant grasp of how the 722.4/5 tranny works. whenever you have slip you are dealing with clutch packs wearing out, seals going. Ether way you are looking at a tranny rebuild .

Yup, needs a rebuild. If it locks up in reverse that isn't good at all. The K-2 engages to provide engine braking in reverse, but they might have the pressures turned up too high or something. The rebuilds on these aren't all that difficult, they really are rather simple transmissions. A good shop with guys who know auto trans. should be able ti figure it out...
