Sunroof

The sunroof on my 83 500 SEC won't close.
It opens fine but won't close so I have to crank it shut.

I don't use it but now when it rains water drips in.

Is there a way I can get it to shut all the way?
There must be a slight opening.

What could it be?
The motor opens the roof fine but does nothing when I press it to close?

My guess is the button may not be making contact?
Motor is functional so what should I look into to try to source out the closing problem?

Thanks

When you crank it shut does the sunroof panel appear to be flush with the roof? If so you must have a torn or worn out seal.

For the motor itself, if it operates fine electrically to open, I would have to guess that you are correct that the switch must be bad.

Originally I was thinking you might have a cable problem, but that should be fine if you can operate it to close it manually in the trunk.

If it operates very stubbornly you might need to lube the tracks. Right now i would more concerned about the water leak.

It cranked close pretty smoothly.
It opens smoothly.
I asked Enrique to lubricate the sunroof when I bought the car so that should be ok.

I can try to get another switch but nor sure how to switch it.
Do they just fit in by prongs?

The car is garaged so rain is not usually a problem esp in CA but I do hose it down to wash it.
The su8nroof appears to be shut fine.

Guess first thing is to try fixing /changing the switch.

Thanks

I was just about to post a question re a similar issue with the sunroof on my 1991 500 SE (W126).
My sunroof is malfunctioning - it would open, but will not close when pressing the switch forward. It does however close when I press the switch upward as if to flip open the sunroof (I realise earlier 126's did not have the tilt function). Furthermore once the sunroof fully closes it then tilts/flips open in one motion all together.
Once in the tilt position the switch has no further effect on sunroof operation ie it is stuck open in the tilt position and I have to crank it closed.
Once in the closed position the swicth will allow the same actions as above untill flipped open.
A friend told me that it is the 'comfort relay' or something as such and that I should disconnect the battery and then reconnect in order to get it to reset.
well, no joy with that!
I must add that my sunroof issue started when I had a locksmith remove the ignition tumbler to cut new keys. As soon as they were done with the car the sunroof issue started and strangely, the passenger r/view mirror AND the cruise control is now dead as well. So I don't know what they did or disturbed or didn't reconnect as they should have.
Where is the comfort relay located?

I apologise if I hi-jacked yr thread.

Thanx

No problem
The more the benzier

Half of the switch the c;lose could be bad.

Same thing happened on my Volvo back window.
It would open fine with the master doot switch & not close.
I finally figured to check the back window switch & yeh it closed.

So now I have an answer for that.

Usually relays & fuses handle more than one function.

f something was wrong with them then I would think open & close wouldn't work.
