Driveshaft balancing
 

I am converting my 300E to a manual. I have the front half of the driveshaft from the manual transmission and will be using the rear half from the existing car. Per EPC, the rear half's are the same on the manual and auto vehicles.

Anyone know of a good place in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that balances drive shafts?

I would gamble on it and use it as is. If it is way wrong it will show up in a hurry. Was the car very smooth in operation all the way around? Tires near perfect balance, ect? I would go with it. It is not fun, but not really difficult to pull it out if it turns out wrong and then I would get both of them balanced. My 300E 5 speed is incredibly smooth. I am sure I could take it way past 100 mph and it would still be smooth. If the drive shaft has the balance marks on it like the W123 has on the late model ones, be sure you line the marks up.

The factory propshaft has balance marks on it. One half has two triangle bosses near the centre bearing u/j and the other half has one triangular boss on it. The factory manual says that the shaft will be balanced as long as the single boss is aligned between the pair. I reassembled our 300E's shaft that way and it did not vibrate.
There is a factory test in Germany that specifies no vibration while accelerating between 80mph and 120 mph - it isn't feasible in the UK, of course. :eek: ;)
