Please HELP; 92 400e is Slower than My 1990 300e !!

Just acquired a 1992 400e with Wald Body Kit from Hawaii . Car has appx. 90k miles and various interior mods. Engine wire harness IS the "Updated" Version. Car idles at a smooth 7000rpm and very recently passed Nevada smog with flying colors(passed in First 45 seconds of test)
However this 400e is actually SLOWER than myall stock 1990 300e (m103) off the line AND in passing mode on the highway. Car does NOT have ASR ; and on instrument cluster has a o2 light instead of a check engine light......."Why"??
So where do i start to reclaim my power/acceleration? I just changed Trans filter/gasket and Trans pan and filled with Redline Hi Temp ATF. I then changed engine oil and filter with Castrol GTX 20W50....
I bought this car for its legendary power But dont have it yet:
Please advise on where to start .....THANKS in advance for ALL input/Help/Suggestions....... Chance

I was experiencing the low power problem until I saw that my accelerator cable was pretty well baked under the hood where it meets the linkage. A turn to the left and took up the slack, and then vvvvvrrrooooom!!! off the car went.

I'm not familiar with US spec V8s, but isn't 20W50 thick for such a modern engine? In Euro land, it would be 10W40 (50 for hot, hard work).
We ran an old M103 300 on Mobil 1 0W40 as an MB dealer fill for the 30k miles that we had it. It was never sweeter.

Check throttle cable for binding and full movement. Check air intake for obstruction. Pull codes. Check catalytic converter for clogging. check fule filter for blockage. Check fuel lines for kinks or other damage.
The 400e is fast, and the problems needs to be discovered.

......New discovery/issue

well the accelerator cable is BRAND NEW and properly adjusted..
But today i removed the air filter box and air intake tubes; upon closer inspection- i notice that the Two (2) middle fuel injectors on passenger side of engine are drenched and wet along with surrounding area. All six (6) of the other injectors are Dry. Its obviously Fuel- Can it be the Cause of lack of Power AND Poor Gas Mileage?? How do i know if i just Need to replace 'O" rings on Injectors Or if I Need New/Rebuilt Injectors? THANKS for All Advise/Info.........

S124300, no the oil weight is correct. He is in Las Vegas where summer temps hit 115F. I live in Palm Springs where it is even hotter. Been running 20-50 in all of my cars for 12 years.

I had the same problem in my 400E, Wider exhaust and a cat removal later it did 14,7 and 106 miles on the quarter mile. Plus i got much better fuel mileage.

Daddi,
Removing the cat converter is a no-no here. While Iceland lets her smog blow out to sea, we don't have that luxury.

What doesn't make sense about your description is that you passed Nevada smog (surprising when you also have an O2 sensor warning light). This says your mixture is in spec, which also says you fuel injection system is working (at least at test speeds). You haven't said anything about misses either.

How far do you have to push the pedal to get the tranny to kickdown? Have you tried manually shifting up from "L", so you can be sure you get a first gear start?

Then replace it with a new one.
