300e differential clicking

I have a loud clicking noise from the left side rear axle or differential when I hold at a steady below 30 mph speed, worse when I decelerate or turn right. Does not do this when I turn left. I have checked the parking brake, and rear wheel bearing and both appear to be tight or in order. Stock wheels. When car is on the jack, noise is not appearent. I also checked the flex disk and it is good. Boots are good on axles, any ideas?

Failing bearing or axle shaft.....very unlikely that it would be the differential.

I think your right, will tackle it this weekend and see what I uncover. I may take a look into replacing the joints. Thanks for the reply.

Exactly what my car started doing, same side. Turn right amplifies. Loudest when accelerating from stop... but still some faint clicking at all speeds comes and goes a bit.

I was just about to head out and start examining the situation for something loose, wobbly, or hitting.

Very funny, my E300 just doing something similar. A sudden clattering in the drive train above 20 MPH. It sounds much like the sound made when sticking playing cards in bicycle spokes. It doesn't seem to be related to load.

I haven't tried running the drive train while suspended off the ground.

Any ideas? Is this the same problem?
