2000 E320 4matic......Transmission Issue?
Looking at buying a wagon that has some type of issue. The car starts fine, when you go to change gear with the gear selector you can feel it engage into reverse or drive but the car just revs when you give it gas, it doesn't move at all. It has code P0700 in it. When you go to put it back in park from reverse or drive it makes a bad sound of grinding metal for a second before it locks itself in park. Oh yeah in park the car doesn't hold itself, you have to put on the e-brake or it will roll.
Does this sound like a TCM issue, it doesn't really to me? I am going to go back and look at it again and see if the connector at the trans is leaking. I just had a few questions, how would you know if the transfer case was bad? What would be the symptoms of that? |

As I started reading I was thinking fluid in the TCM or perhaps a bad conductor plate, but the failure to lock into park and the grinding metal sound are signs of internal transmission problems that will not be cheap to fix. I'd walk away unless the car is otherwise flawless and the price is low enough to let you replace the transmission, which might be cheaper than tearing into yours.
Good luck. |

IF the fluid level is OK..expect to pay $$$$ for trans replacement or repair!
