Power Steering Leak - '92 300TE 4Matic
I found the power steering fluid trail the other day. My 4Matic light blinks (my mechanic says my Power Steering pump is weak and should be replaced.)
I have bought a seal kit for this Vicker 119 power steering pump - I have no manual. Any suggestions or comments on removing the pump and replacing the seals. I have been advised to carefully use a fabric pipe wrench to remove the front plate of the pump. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. |
Uh, where does it leak? "Weak" pumps don't cause leaks! They would just not pump as much, and it would act like the fluid was low, which is a groaning noise, not a leak!
As it happens, I'm right in the middle of replacing the return hose on my 92 400E. It was swelled and leaking at the end clamp by the steering box. Look a little closer, and you might find the same. Spook |

If you are leaving a trail, it is more likely a loose hose somewhere. It seems doubtful that the PS pump could leak rapidly enough from the seal(s) to do that. |
