How much does 124 transmission weigh?

And if I wanted to overhaul one, does it just take a typical stand to keep it pointed up? Or something more special.

I would guess around 110 pounds less TC. I used clean concrete blocks.

110 seems kinda light. I'd say more like 175 ish. 110 means you could pick it up by yourself.

I can carry one around at chest height without the TC installed. I'd say 110-120 is accurate. The TC by itself weighs a good 50lbs.

I'd say no more than 40 kilos.(empty - no TC) I pick them up and move them by myself.
Last time I used two guys - Myself and my mate - he dropped his end on my foot and broke two of my toes.

I think the last time I Dragged one around, I remember it being too Heavy to lift. it probably had the TC on. Or I'm getting weak....

Its too heavy to remove from the car and reinstall without a transmission jack.

No.

pawoSD 05-16-2012 09:15 PM

That is with the TC installed though most likely.

Correct, with the torque converter installed.

It threw me off reading "TC". Having dealt with 4x4s many times.
I thought you were meaning "transfer case" and was thinking; "WTF???". :D

M102's amd M103 2.6litres engines use a 722.4 transmission. Considerably lighter than a 722.3

Last time I changed a 722.3 under the car I didn't have a tranny jack. Used a normal floor jack with a flat board bolted to it. I wouldn't do it again - I lucked out and got the tranny mounted to the engine first go. Next time I'll use a special tranny jack.
