After Market Warranty & Reilability of 1995 S320

Just purchased a 1995 S320 from original owner. Has 69,000
miles on it.

What are your thoughts on after market warranties. I see where
I can purchase a warranty for $2300.00 for a two year term. It
looks like it covers a lot.

Is there certain parts on this car that are prone to failure
or break down.

Any thoughts you can give me on this matter would be very
much appreciated.

Just paid $22,800.00 for the car. Live in the Chicagoland
area. Car did have some paint work. However, paint only.
NO body work. Your thoughts on the price paid?

Hope to add and obtain a lot of info from you kind folks
on this board.

On that car, only 2 real serious problems to be aware of.
First is the A/C evaporators are prone to leakage, which is quite an expensive undertaking, couple grand to fix. Maybe it's already been done, that's how common it is.
The other thing that's fairly common to all engines of this type (104 motor) is oil leakage that may be due to a blown head gasket. On these, it seems like external leakage is the only result, at least it's usually not a scenario where oil is mixing into the coolant or vice-versa.
There are know wiring harness problems on 104 motors also, but I don't recall doing one on an S Class, maybe someone else reading this has had one done, but it' seems usually to be a E-Class problem for some reason.
I don't have much to say about the extended warranty question, just that it's really just an insurance policy, not really like a factory warranty. If it specifically covers the head gasket, the A/C evaporator, and control units, it may be worth it. It's a gamble either way.

Thats a good price of the car is in good shape and has good records....that car seems to me should have been priced more in the mid 20 range

thanks to be aware of......the evap core is a big issue....and you are looking at close to 3 grand to fix(not sure where gilly got his 2 figure)....actually there is a blower resistor that is a very common problem also...another thingthat might need attantion are the closing assist pump

I don't know much about your model but I recently bought a 95 SL and the extended warranty through warrantybynet. I spoke to a couple MB mechanics and they thought the warranty would be a good investment. I did the payment plan in case I needed the warranty and they wouldn't pay I could discontinue payments. It's just a piece of mind for me. Good Luck, George
