Camshaft Interchangebility Question?
Is there any chance that a camshaft from a 380(116) motor would interchange with the 500(117) motor? I have a 500 euro motor on the ground in excellent shape except for the cams.

Almost all of the later cams will FIT into either engine! However they should be replaced as a pair as lift & duration varies from engine to engine.

That's great news! The euro 500 I have taken partially apart only needs the cams replaced. Thanks so much, M.B. DOC. Isn't this an excellent forum?

M.B. Doc:
Not to second guess you, but although they will *physically* fit, the valve timing and/or lift is not going to be appropriate for a Euro spec 5 liter engine. Would you really consider such an arbitrary swap as appropriate? (?!) RTH Last edited by RunningTooHot; 02-18-2002 at 03:47 PM. |

Both engines are Euros. I was planning to check the specs next, but what would be the point if they didn't interchange? I think new euro cams are very expensive and these are in great shape. The next question, as you suggest is are they appropriate for the 500 motor?

ON most 20 year old engines 2 OR 3 degrees of duration, OR .02 to .05 mm of lift isnt going to have much effect on the cars running ability. IF you are installing a MATCHED set of cams on this engine then the car will run fine.
ON the rear of these cams is a stamped in number that can define the cam timing (lift & duration) that the engine was designed to run.
