Engine swap
Can a 1990 300E engine (3.0liters) be installed as a replacement for a tired 2.6liter in a 1989 (W124).
Both cars have the same transmission? Stater/alternator/exhaust manifold/pipes system are the same? Ignition/fuel injection the same? Is it a direct replacement or is this looking for major problems? Thanks for your input. JackD |

I've never done it, but it should be a bolt-on affair. Keep the fuel injection components with the 3.0l engine to be sure. You may have to transfer some electricals as well.

Engine Swap
If I remember right the 2.6 has a 722.4 trans behind it and the 3.0 has a 722.3, otherwise it's a bolt in job.
If one were aware of the limitations of the 722.4 trans. it could be used. The 722.4 trans is a light weight version of the 722.3 and should be treated as such. M.F. |

260E, 300E 2.6 = 722.409
86-88 300E = 722.320 88-91 300E = 722.358 92-93 300E = 722.359 You da man, Mike. Probably best to keep the transmission with the engine. Sixto 91 300SE 81 300SD |
