W124 Wiper Arm Stops in Mid Cycle During Intermittent Wipe

1987 300TD, with 87K miles - the wiper arm stops about 2/3 to the right when set on intermittent wipe.

The problem started about 30 minutes into use during a rainstorm - the wiper arm suddenly stopped in mid cycle. The wiper remains fully functional in low and high speed settings but stops mid cycle in intermittent. The arm also now parks in that same position when the wiper is turned off, regardless of speed setting selected.

Switched out the wiper relay with a new unit, without success.

Turn signal combo switch defective?

It is probably the park switch in the wiper motor. I have never seen one in person but I know it is there.

Multipurpose combo relay?

My wiper has parked at 2 oclock since I bought it (95 e320). So this relay is causing the failure to park?

Where, pray tell, is this relay?

Highly interested. I have a soldering iron and I know how to make it melt stuff.

Kent

My Relay is off by one number. Wonder if that is the problem?

I couldn't see any solder weakness or wear. So I didn't start melting things. Posted the pics so that if I missed some, you guys could chime in.

Only issue is that when I turn off the wiper, it stops at 2 oclock instead of 3. The stalk is brand new (thanks to fastlane).

Only thing I see is post 30 looks like its got an issue.

Great day, that relay, when you turn the 2 into a 0, goes from $60 to $175. I hope it is the wrong one....but I kinda doubt it.

But Apparently they do the same thing. Just Trust Roy. JTR. Just Trust Roy.

My w201 is doing this. I swapped the relay with a known good one with no change. I'm waiting for a new stalk to come.

I've already done the stalk. My relay does appear to be good. Hmmmm

If your stalk fixes it please let the thread know.

You can't really visually OK a relay because the issues are based around microfactures in the solder....

Verify part # via EPC since we have conflicting part #'s in this thread. It is possible somebody swapped it before...but I would lean towards the EPC showing the same part number as you have. Could also be a succeeded part.
Do a solder touch up. As long as you do it carefully, you can't really screw it up. Worst thing that could happen is it runs which you can fix with another touch up.

The chances of the problem being soldier micro-fractures are significantly greater when you're talking about a diesel.

At the risk of being redundant, I'll just go ahead and point out that you're an invaluable resource here Mr. Hunter.
