Can I use a '87 560SEL transmission in my 380SEL?
My transmission of my '81 380SEL is on its way out. It is shifting very slowly when putting in D or after coming to a complete stop (I have to do incomplete stops at stop signs, lights, and reverse is fine) it takes about 15 seconds to shift.
I have access to a '87 560SEL transmission that shifts perfectly; the owner is a friend and used it a few years ago when his car knew better times. As I understand, both transmissions are of the group 722.3XX (the last two digits obviously vary) and they use the same modulator. I am not looking for perfection of the part numbers, I just want to know if the tranny will have the capacity to adapt to my 380 engine. Once again, not looking for pristine stock specifications. Yes those should be the same transmission physically, the 560 is internally more robust I believe. So it will last even longer behind a 380.
