Fuel line on 240D

Just replaced the flexible fuel line that connects at bottom of tank to metal line. Last time I had to do it was back around 1993 when they changed the diesel mix in CA. At that time dealer wanted $25 for new line and had them back ordered. The MB part had a metal fitting that plugged into the tank and slipped over the metal line at the other end. For about $5 I got a new fitting for the tank that allowed me to use a plain piece of flexible line and slip fit it at both ends. This time the repair cost me a buck for 12 inches of new flexible line. Also allowed a quicker fix so less fuel got dumped.

Good info, but the original hose can have the same repair done without any new fittings. Just cut the crimped shell from the old fitting, replace the hose and use an adjustable hose clamp instead of the swedged band that the factory installed because it was cheaper.
