New 722.4 transmission vacuum modulator - is this an updated part or???

Bought a new vac modulator for a '93 190E 2.6 from Fastlane. What I got was this:

This doesn't look like the one on the transmission. Is this the correct part? If so I don't see how the retaining plate that secures the modulator valve to the transmission is going to fit over this thing.

The correct modulator for the 722.4 transmission is supposed to look like this:

Note the metal ring for the retaining plate to push against. As you can see, one of these things is not like the other. Was I shipped an updated part? Was I shipped an incorrect part? Best I can tell it has the Mercedes Qualitat Geprufte words on the box which looks like what all the other small parts you get from the MB dealer come in, but curiously it's without the MB star. The part itself has part numbers on it per usual. Just what car is this supposed to be for anyway?

...nevermind, did some more research and found information confirming this is an updated part that should fit as required. Started to kind of flip out a little bit but all better now. And the plate fits under the modulator, not over.

It IS a radical redesign though.

Is this update listed in the ATSG manual?
