$5000 seems like a deal for a well maintained two owner S500. If you're going to buy an S class, you're going to have to expect to pay for some repairs. Certainly not $2000 for engine mounts but these cars are not cheap to look after.
Good luck. |
You're going to kick yourself if you don't buy this, because you won't find one nicer, and you'll later settle for a lesser example and have higher repair bills.
one-owner 20 year old cars with full history aren't growing in abundance |
Thanks. Well the price I can get the car for is $3300, so its a little less than $5K.
The other shop is closed (they are on vacation) that I was going to call for motor mount quote, the other place is still working on an estimate... |
you can get lemforders for 93 dollars each..
i am sure you can find a tech to do the job for 300 labor.....maybe 350 |

Drive down to Soperton, GA and have engatwork do the motor mounts. He operates his own shop at his house.
|
Well the shop that I said told me $2000 for the mounts told me it would be $820. today when I called back for the exact quote. I apparently misunderstood him the other day on the phone. $820 I can live with and may can even get it done less than that as others above have mentioned. I think I will go ahead and buy the car... I will know for sure tomorrow.
Thanks again and wish me luck! |
I could not find the mounts listed here on Peachparts, but I found some elsewhere...
I found the one that Lee was mentioning- the Lemfoerder brand. I found another brand for about $32 - I think it was Uro parts brand, but I wonder about its quality. It shows the list price though was once the same as the Lemfoerder brand. |
URO brand is *****, I would not trust it on any critical items such as suspension and drive train. I once made the mistake of replacing the flex discs that were on my 91 560SEL for 250,000 miles with ones from URO.
They lasted 10 months and fell apart while going down the road 30mph. It blew the back of my transmission apart and set of the airbags, thus rendering a perfectly good car into a parts car. Buy carefully. |
Thanks Al. I will be sure not to use those then. I was wondering if they were poor quality. Yeah, with as much as the labor is on these, you surely want something that will last.
Thanks again. Quote:

I am now the proud owner of a 1993 400SEL. I will post pics later when I can go out and get my phone and the rain stops.
