260e wont run without starter fluid
 

hi guys my 260e has been at the shop for a few months now i was having my entire drivetrain replaced. well my mechanic got it all put together and has been trying to get it running so far hes only been able to get it to start with carb fluid but it dies almost instantly he did a fuel pressure test and said its getting very good pressure and good spark. he says theres a issue somewere with the fuel delivery but cant figure it out does anyone have a sugestion of what it can be the car hasnt ran for about 2 years but before that it was running.

Replace the fuel.

could it really be that simple lol il ask him if he added a suficient amount any other place to look if that doesnt work?

i asked him about the gas and he laughed at me and said of course he added gas lol so any other sugestions he also said that the tps sensor seems to be leaking some gas whats causing this could this be a issue

Fuel usually does not last longer than 1 year, he needs to replace the fuel not just add to it, this problem is very well known to those of us who own old cars that are stored sometimes for years. the tps sensor is leaking because the intake manifold is filling up with unburnt gas, Com'on this isn't very complicated if it runs on carb cleaner and the fuel pressure is fine than there is obviously something wrong with the fuel. Now tell him to clean out the intake manifold and completely replace the fuel before doing anything else.

lol i know i was kind of worried about that leak but that makes perfect sense to me. i will let him know he should already know this he owns his own shop :-p i will tell him to do this

ok i have put fresh gas in it still not working i tested to see if the injectors are even spraying well there not just drops what could this be the fuel distributor? its got good fuel pressure i had to take it back from this mechanic because hes a idiot lol so im working on it on my own now :(

Replace the fuel and the mechanic. He sounds like a bozo.

Could be a bad fuel pressure regulator or a gummed up fuel distributor/injectors.

The fact that it has been at the shop for months to have the drive-line re-done shows the competency of the mechanic. I am not a mechanic by profession, and I can renew the driveline on one of these cars in less than 6-8 hours on my own.

While starting push the air flow meter down with your finger, the flap on the meter opens the fuel regulator. If the engine is getting to much false air the air flow meter does not open and wolla no gas goes through.

lol ya im never going to him again he was bad i have put new gas in suposedly they had it running and then they turned it off and now it wont start again....i was thinking that the fuel distributor was gummed up is there anyway to clean it without breaking open that gasket i looked online and the gasket is 70 bucks im a poor college student lol thanx for the help guys

ok im 98% sure its my fuel distributor being plugged up i took one of the injectors off and no fuel is even getting through it so i just need to no whats the best way to clean it out

You don't. It needs to be replaced.

ok after messing with it the car idles for a sec only 3 injectors are actually getting fuel il be going to the junkyard tomarrow to pick up a couple of them il let you know how she runs :) excited i havnt driven it for about 2 years

ok got a nice clean fuel distributor from the jy now all my injectors are squirting but when ever i get it running its only for about 30 seconds to a minute its spraying alot of unburnt fuel out of the tail pipe and wont stay running whats wrong with this.swapped out the plugs incase they were fouled out and that didnt solve things still nothing i checked the spark coming from the plug its pretty weak looking has new rotor,dist cap, and wireset
