C43 Engine Ticking Noise

I have a '99 C43 that has a strange ticking or clicking noise emitting from the engine compartment. It's hard to pin point the sound, but it seems louder from underneath and to the rear of the engine.

Anyone have any idea what may be causing this noise. I did notice that as the engine RPM increases the noise is still there but is drowned out by the roar of the engine. As the RPM's drop to idle the noise comes back.

Any help would be appreciated on this matter.

I'd bring it back to your dealer...does it still have some warranty left?...how many miles? What kind of oil are you using? Is your tranny OK?

Sounds like maybe your lifters aren't getting enough oil....? You'd hear that up top though...anyway,hope you sort it out...love those cars.

The car is still under warranty. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic. The car only has 19K on it.

I plan on getting it to the dealer by the middle of March.

Thanks for your help.

There you go then...lucky you...its their problem at that mileage. Let us know what it is.

Don't know if the symptoms are similar, but another C43 owner here in Charlotte told me that he "had cams replaced - always noisy above 2k rpms. Had lifters replaced to better hold the oil on top of the engine after it sits for a few days. Both fixes corrected the problems."

This was done under warranty -- I would think that the individually matched AMG camshafts would be very pricey.
