Gas Gauge works only when full
 

The gas gauge seems to flicker when it gets below the 1/2 way mark. If you fill the tank the gauge reads full but and 1/2 a tank it starts jump around and will eventually read empty. The resurve light comes on so i fill up. But I can only add about 10-12 gallons of Diesel. Is this a sending unit problem or a Gauge problem?

Got the exact same problem on my 1977 300d. It only has 52000miles on it so it shouldn't have worn out yet. I agree from the other postings, there must be some kind of inherent design problem.
