Offer them $2500, and be prepared to drop another 3-4 k in freshening the rubber. (you do the work yourself)

You will have the ultimate example of a 300e.

yeah, at the right price I will buy it but it all depends on how much is wrong with it. Besides the rubber bits, if it need the head and A/C done as well, I'll pass. I'll update when I find out what the problems are.

the head is pretty straight forward. The ac can get expensive.

Did you check or do you know what kind of warranty the dealer has on their used cars. This is worth something to you buying from a dealer. You wouldn't get any warranty buying from an individual.

It's being sold as is. When I made my initial offer it was contingent on getting a PPI first.

Dealer got back to me about a few things found at inspection:

odometer not working - he thinks this happened after they bought the care but either way the car has to be listed as true mileage unknown.

From the carfax emission inspection records going back to '95 it consistantly shows 4 - 8 thousand miles added to the odo every other year - could the odometer be working but 'slow'?

There is also a list of fix its from the inspection that he's going to forward to me as well.

He also let me know that they're into the car for $5200

Ok, this car turned out to be a cluncker:

Inspection from MB dealer showed:

front end accident, right side chassis buckle with note that the repair was of "very poor quality" and then goes on to list about 12 other items.

This car went from 8 thousand to 8 hundred in 22 posts. Wow.

You really dodged that bullet...

Yeah, it just shows again the importance of the PPI - luckily someone got there before me so I didn't have to pay for it.
