i think i found out where the hissing noise is coming from . is in the rear, back by the tires. both sides. any ideas? thx.

Ahhh, must just be the fuel pump.

So , how much would it cost for a fuel pump , and how hard is it to put that in?

Hey John -

the fuel pump makes a continuous hissing noise as it is running - perfectly normal. it is behind the passenger rear tire, enclosed in a casing of sorts. you can hear it running when the car is on.

ok , thanks on the location , but it makes a loud hissing noise you can hear it from all over the car bothsides even up to front wheels, would it be hard/expensive to replace this? could i possible do it on my own?

The part is kind of expensive. I'd replace the fuel filter also, that's pretty cheap. Check out this site (Fast Lane or Parts Shop buttons at the top of the screen) for parts. You could maybe handle it yourself, it's not terribly difficult. Do it in a well ventilated area, it gets kind of gassy, so also wear old clothes. Bad day to take up smoking, if you know what I mean.......
