1996 W140 Merc S280 Aircon Blower problem

The aircon is working OK but the blower fan increase speed for the first 4 bars on the climate control unit ,thereafter the remaining bars appear on the display but the blower remains at half speed. Any suggestions as I am getting very conflicting diognosis' from the 'auto electricians' here in Cyprus

it's probably the blower resistor. pull the cabin filter out to get to the blower. there's 3 wires, red, blue and a smaller gauge yellow. put a meter on that wire and run the blower speed up and down from the dash. the voltage on the yellow should change. if it goes up when blower is on high, and down on low, then you need the resistor. this assumes all 140s are the same, that's how we check it in the u.s. good luck, chuck.

Thanks your reply. This is now yet another possibility which I'll try but do you think the resistor being faulty is more likely than a faulty regulator ?

I believe they are one and the same. Mercedes calls it a regulator and it controls motor speed through variable resistance.
