new benz guy needs suspension help
Hi guys, brand new owner here and LOVE the car.
I have a 1983 500SEL the rear suspension is stuck basically slamming the ground. The previous owner said it has a leak and said he just kept adding brake fluid and hydraulic fluid and it raised. The car has not raised anymore. I found a hose under the hood near the front left headlight (sitting in the car) and it goes down and attatches to the front of the motor somewhere near the fan. The hose is a metal formed hose with a steel braided section in the middle. I replaced that hose with a rubber hose and hose clamps (not knowing any better) and it lasted about 20 minutes before it busted but for that time, the suspension still did not rise... Im sorry for asking a somewhat dumb questions, but does that line control the rear suspension r do i have two seperate problems? thanks in advance guys and if anyone has these parts used, id be happy to support fellow members by purchasing from them. |

Welcom to the forums! A 1983 500SEL? It must be a Euro model, because in 1983, the SEL sold in the USA was a 380. The 500SEL didnt arrive here until late '83 as a '84 model IIRC.
I am not sure with the rear suspensions on these, but I am sure someone here will soon chime in. |
