Re: Fuel pump output
The MB shop manual for the M110 engine specifies a pump output of a minimum of 1 liter per 30 seconds, measured at the return port of the fuel distributor.
If that output is not achieved the manual gives this list of checks:

1. Screen in inlet port of fuel dist.
2. Pinch the leak line from the accumulator to the inlet damper of the
pump (small visegrips), and repeat the flow test. If the flow now meets
the spec, replace the accumulator. (The diaphragm is leaking, and fuel
is being recycled to the pump inlet.)
3. Replace fuel filter.
4. Insure physical condition of fuel line(s) between pump and fuel dist.
5. If output is not achieved, replace pump.

Because of the age of the car and limited use, and accumulation of rust in the tank, there is a real possibility of both filter and screen plugging, and pump wear from abrasive rust particles. Many tanks have required cleaning and internal coating to insure a clean fuel supply.

when I performed the flow check I placed the output of the hose in to a gallon jug. Then used a Ratio Rite cup to measure the volume. The capacity of a Ratio Rite cup is 18 ozs. I remember having a little over the volume of the Ratio Rite cup. I think at the time I thought a liter was close to 16 ozs, thinking there was 4 qts in 1 gallon. I dont think I had the necessary 34 ozs. Will be rechecking this test tonight.

Yes, from a dealer. It's the same as a 280E, I believe.

I'm on somewhat shaky ground here, but I believe the same screen is used in all K-Jet fuel distributors: VW, Audi, Porsche, Volvo, MB, etc. I've not had to replace one myself, hence the lack of firm knowledge. In other threads on this site I have encountered mention of a shop in Fairhope, AL that rebuilds WURs. That sort of facility may have access to other service parts. You might also inquire of the Fastlane folks.

The EPC shows both the inlet and outlet fittings on the FD as available.

Is the inlet fitting in the front or the rear? I haven't work on K-Jet for so long, I've forgotten.

OK, I believe it is A000 074 36 86. Why don't you ask them for it by number and see what they say?

If needed, I will ask my man Roy tomorrow.

Chuck, you called it. The fuel inlet strainer is available by the P/N you referenced $16. I am kicking myself for not being patient. I will have to see what I get for a used fitting.

Received used fuel inlet screen fitting for fuel distributor. Damaged this one also trying to push the strainer from the inlet to the outlet. The fitting is tapered from the inlet to the outlet. Someone had told me to use a sheetrock screw and pull it out. I can attest to that being the only way of getting the strainer out. It has to be pulled out. Whats interesting is that a small hollow brass donut (almost similar to how an oring is used) is molded on to the strainer. This is what deforms as the oem pushed the strainer into the steel fitting. Have ordered the p/n Chuck gave me....waiting to confirm if it is the fuel inlet strainer. Meanwhile draining the fuel....it had a full tank of premium. Will remove fuel tank outlet strainer, replace fuel filter, and hopefully replace fuel distributor inlet strainer. Will report in as work progresses.

Larry Fletcher the Flowtech guy explained to me that rust particles get through the strainer, get ground up too fine to be stopped by the filter, and end up clogging the tiny passages in the fuel distributor.

So if you have rust in the tank strainer then you need to pull the tank and get it boiled and coated. Otherwise you will be facing the same problems in weeks or months and you may hose your FD in the process. Don't ask me how I know!

Chuck, the p/n you gave me is a threaded fitting w/o a screen. I do not know if it is the correct steel fitting. I called Larry Fletcher and he gave me p/n 000 074 6086, told me he buys them buy the hundreds and had a bag with MB p/n on it. Waiting for part to come in. Removed fuel tank strainer, clean as a whistle. Looks like the inside of the tank is new....that was good news. This left me with the fuel pump.....it is not very pretty and as stated in an earlier post.....I thought it sounded a bit noisy when it ran. Fuel pump has been ordered.
