looking at a 95 c220 what to look out for

Its a 95 c220 with 110k. are there any problem areas to check out. its from a dealer for about $4200 plus taxes and such. a/c had to be recharged but they did it right away and it works now. if it has to be recharged isn't there a leak. The speedometer sticks. ill likley have it looked at by an indy if i decide to go for it.

Wiring harness insulation falling apart; plastic trim on interior and exterior cracking; headliner sag; suspension rubber/metal joints and bushings; motor mounts

You didn't mention whether a M-B dealer or not? At that price it would be very much needing a pro PPI on the car. You don't want to get flooded with post purchase repairs.

is there a reason why you want that particular model?

C.Doner 08-14-2012 04:27 PM

just need a good car.

It happens to be available, and i'm in need of good car for toting around the baby.
the auto reviews are good for it on sites like msnauto.com/edmonds and such.
I like the mileage stats.
I just want an entry level car that is simple.
What do you guys think of the model. Are they high maintainance. the reviews said no, but i dont think they tell the truth sometimes or dont post the negative reviews

We own a '95 C280 which has been close to a perfect vehicle for 7 years. Check for rust in the lower door jambs just above the rocker moldings and also along the edges of the body side moldings.

taking it in tomorrow CK auto

im driving it tonight to look at it more closely.
I am taking it in tomorrow for a PPI. I like the fact it has low miles on it.

They're great cars. Regret selling mine. No serious problem areas, just normal (basic-model) MB stuff. As was previously said.....rubber bushings galore, front suspension components, make sure trans has been serviced on schedule, as 17years/110k is a nice rebuild schedule, get AC sorted out before purchase. I'd be looking to buy that car for $3500 tops.

f.up question

Any reason to prefer W202 Classe 1995 over venerable W124 E320 1995?

C.Doner 08-15-2012 10:52 AM

on the fence

ill see what the MB mechanic says this morning. im thinking of passing. no records and a few oddities like the sticky gauges.the speedo, tach and fuel gauge all stick down . it seems to shift and run nicely though

C.Doner 08-15-2012 02:53 PM

no go. POS

it needs a head gasket. its leaking externally. should have gone with instincts on this one. at least i'm only down $110 instead of $3000. the low miles cars are always suspicious. not driving them is very bad.
