Cup Holder's from Griot's - Where's best place to mount them.
I read about the cup holders sold by Griot's Garage and bought two. I have a 91 300E and wonder if anyone with similar car has installed them and where. Although this is a 91 it does have rider's side air bag.
The holders really are first class product, I just don't want to drill holes and find out the location is not a good one. Thanks for anyone's comments. Norm Williams 91 300E MB, 67 XKE, 76 Chevy Powered XJS, 86 V12 XJS |
Mount them..
...just underneath the door opener. I'll post a pic of mine on my '91 300 E if you'd like.

Just under the door handle is the best place. I attached mine low enough so that a regular soda can, snapple bottle, or regular size drink wouldn't interfere with the door operation. Of course, if I buy a Big Gulp at the 7-11, I have to remove the drink to open the door. The reason why I didn't mount it lower is that it hits my knee.
I started a post on this cup holder a couple of months ago and it got well over 500 hits and pages of posts. Pictures are posted here showing the mounting location. Do a search on cupholders, or even do a search under my name 'suginami' in the members section by doing an advanced search and then scrolling through all of my posts. |
Oh, btw, you don't really need to drill holes. The screws are self-tapping. The material you're going to screw into is sort of a pressed board material. It holds the cupholder tightly, but you need all the grip you can get.

Has anyone found a way to attach this nice cup holder WITHOUT damaging the leather?
To much to ask? Double-sided tape just laughed at the thought. |
Velcro?
I thought about it .... for a moment. ~Paul ___________________ '91 300E, 208k miles |
I'm afraid double sided tape won't cut the mustard.
