head gasket kit with seal
 

I bought this head gasket kit for the 95 E320 M104 engine and it came with :

1. head gasket
2. Intake manifold gasket
3. Exhaust manifold gaskets
4. and an oil seal, about 2 inches wide.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out where that oil seal goes? Too small to be the main crank seal. Is it behind the fan/clutch assembly?

It might be for motors that have a distributor or possibly the cam advance actuator.

The fan mount is just a sealed bearing.

Sure hope the head gasket is the new style with the metallic corners. If not, I wouldn't use it.

It might be the coolant seal that goes between the top timing cover and the forward face of the cylinder head.
