Question infra red detector not working.

The infra red detector for my '96 c280 keyless entry stopped working. It is not a problem with the key as I've checked. The fuse seems fine as well. Is there a relay that might have burned out? Or the mirror unit dead.. Hint: I also noticed that the vanity mirror lights don't work as well.... Anyone have any ideas what it is?
Many thanks!

One other observation: The red & green lights on the rear view mirror no longer turn on or blink.

Point your remote to a video camera, and look into the screen; It should flash like bright star. It would work also on a security screen it would flash.

The green and red should flash.

The 96 / 97 remotes have a built in battery test function. Hold the key fob button in for at least 3 seconds and look for a red flash to come from the IR window.

If the light blinks but still won't open the car, there is a resync procedure that goes something like, hold the remote buton for 4 seconds while aimed at the car then you have 20 seconds to insert the key and turn the ignition to run. ( It might be press the remote button 2 times in 4 seconds then turn the key )
