Fuel Pressure? 2006 ML350 272 engine
I tried looking in wis but could not find it.Would any one know what the fuel pressure should be on a ML350 272 eng 2006. I know the old ML320's were 55 to 60 psi,but I could not find anything on the Ml 350.
Also should it hold pressure for a certain amount of time when not running? Thanx in advance John......................................

Yes, still the same spec...
Should hold some pressure overnight.

No listing for those codes on my M272 engine list.
Are they fuel trim codes?

lean at idle
P2187 is lean at idle left bank, and 2189 is lean at idle rt bank. I have tried a spare new MAF, and physicaly checked for vacum leaks. I am going to check for low fuel pressure and then I will try a smoke test on the intake to ck for leaks.

Might want to go for the smoke test first. If you've got enough fuel pressure to drive down the road, under load, without setting faults for lean mixture during part load, or for that matter causing you concern about a lack of power, you've got plenty for idle.

makes sense
Makes sense ,I dont really want to change the pump in the tank which is also the sending unit ,and from what I understand the filter is also the pressure regulator all in the tank under the back seat.I have heard a few techs say this is not a fun job!

vacum leak
Had my indie look at it while It was in for trans work. They said it was the intake manifold gaskets I guess they both went bad at once?? well Im gonna change them to get rid of these codes P2187,P2189. the gaskets are only 7 bucks I will report back after I replace them.

resonance intake fell apart
Removed intake for gasket change and found a hole worn thru the manifold by loose and falling apart flapper valves inside the intake! some were even laying on the inner floor of the manifold. With all of this there was no change in performance or fuel economy just the 2 codes P2187 & P2189 both banks lean at idle. This looks like an expensive intake EPC shows it as an assembly only. nothing on it is repairable not even the vacum pods on the front.

hole worn thru Magnesium resonance manifold this is at the back next to where the slide actuator mounts this must have been the cause of my vacum leak

Pretty common on higher mileage engines. A smoke test would've found this problem right away. The flap shaft rides in teflon bushings which wear out, allowing the shaft to contact the inside of the intake. After awhile it wears through. In many cases the linkage that controls the resonance flaps breaks first, rendering the flaps useless. This is probably a good thing, since the shaft can't wear a hole in the intake if it's not moving.
In rare cases the teflon bushings fall apart and get sucked into the engine. I've seen a few valves get hung up this way. |

LOW Miles!!!
This car only had 60k miles on it when this happened. I removed all the broken parts, epoxied the hole , and I'm driving it with no issues and no DTC's runs great now no more P2187 and P2189.
The flappers above the valves at each head port are still good and are opperating normal only the interior flappers are disabled now
