Maybe looking for a new car

was driving my S class along the highway, and out of nowhere, wiley coyote came, and kinda got drove through.... Anyways, it did a pile of damage to the bumper, wheel well liner, and under engine pans. Enough that I figure the insurance company will write the car off..... :( There doesn't seem to be any structural or mechanical damage to the car...
So, I have been looking locally for a car, and so far, a 2002 c240 has caught my eye. Looking for maybe a c class. I figure that that's the better way to go unless I get a diesel, as I live in the middle of nowhere... The nearest city is 100+ miles away...

If you're looking for a Diesel, get an E300 Turbo Diesel. They're relatively cheap nowadays. Torque puts me in awe. Sold ours to a good friend of ours just two weeks ago. Nav, Bose, Seat Heaters, Headlight washers. Good car I'm gonna buy it back I think in two years. Good luck in your search! :)

Currently, the only diesel like that available is the 97 e300d. Unfortunately, I cannot import from the US as it's on the prohibited list for another 2-3 years.... :(:( Does the 97 have the 722.6 tranny?? How good is that year??

Depending on your budget, Tyler has a nice c320 sport for sale over in the classifieds section that fits your criteria

97 was the year of the 722.6 transmission. The 97 E300D still got a lot of gaul for a non-turbo. 97 isn't a problematic year. Any issues that concern you I'd look around.

I was wondering what sort of issues to look at look for when looking at this car. The 97 I mean.

AC Evaporator, Head Gasket.

amosfella 09-07-2012 04:12 PM

the seller says AC works fine. How to check the evap, and the head gasket?? Anything else??

amosfella 09-07-2012 09:07 PM

Is the c240 worth looking at in that year? 2002?

I dont think you can actually check the evaporator... I think if the A/C is working all you can hope is that it stays that way for awhile, OR see if the A/C evaporator has already been replaced before with a new one.

Evap is behind the dash, gasket actually isn't that bad to do even if it hasn't been done. Just give the car a good once over. Look for leaks, rust.

Most of that damage could be fairly cheaply repaired if you sourced some good used pieces to put on.........
