Bad Fuel Accumulator Cause Gasoline Odors Inside?
 

Can a failing fuel accumulator cause gasoline odors in the cabin? All hoses, seals and filters have been checked. Engine bay area is also fine. Odors start after about a half hour of driving. 1988 190E 2.3

I'd say no because the when the accum fails it lets the fuel go back into the tank instead of holding pressure. I had a bad fuel tank cap that let odor into an 85 SE that I used to have. I also had a leaking joint at the fuel filter that caused odor but was not enough to show fuel on the ground when stopped w/ engine running. I would check the fittings at the fuel pump/filter/accum for wet signs and then replace the fuel cap. 4 bolts hold the plastic shield for the pump assy just below the driver side back seat.

Most common places for leaking are the gas tank cap, the rubber gasket around the pipe by the cap, the EHA valve on the engine, and the Fuel Pressure regulator on the engine. Both are under the air cleaner so you'd never know they are leaking unless you specifically look for it.
