W126 Grill Styling (Oliverp)
I was just wondering about Oliverp's grill on the w126. Is that a complete insert or just extra chrome inserts ? I think it looks great!
Here is the link Let's all post a pic of our Benz(s) |

I believe he wire tied or affixed the extra chrome strips on the grill.
I had done this on my car before, but with some stick on door edge moulding in chrome from pepboys. Coist next to nothing, and looked good for a little while. But then I decided to change it again. Alon

Thanks Ashman.
I was hoping there would be a cleaner approach. Have you seen Oliverp around? |

Does anyne have any suggestions to refresh the look of the front a w126?
Some people converted to an sec look. Oliverp just changed the grill, which I like. I haven't seen much in respects to products for this matter. For the W201 there are sec and sl conversions. Love to hear any imput Thanks in advance |

simple paint the insert black, either matte or semi gloss, and replace the chrome strips. IF that doesn't suit you, add more chrome strips.

I have used the standard grill, but painted the insert and headlamp wipers matt black. I also swapped the indicators for clear lenses and have euro lights.

Matt, Looks bad ass.
Good job on that, one of the best looking fronts on a w126 sedan I have ever seen. Alon

Thanks Ashman. I am probably going to debadge the rear next to tidy it up a bit. Have you driven your dad's sl600? I would imagine that it would get up and go.

Thanks guys,
Ashman- Are the chrome strips that are on the grill all the same size and how many do you think will fit in total? By the way, I've always loved your car and your valued imput. Thanks always Mattman- Your car looks great! Being a euro car you benefit from the nice short bumpers and one piece headlights right from the start. Your black grill insert looks real sharp. It makes the car look newer. I never did like the oem grey color the insert came in. What kind of paint did you use? Do you have a pic of the rear of your car since you mentioned you have clear lenses all around? Love to see it. Thank you |

Here is a low quality shot of the rear. I plan on debadging the boot, just leaving the 560SEL badge on the back. You can also just make out the new exhaust I have just had fitted. It is a single 3in system, with no cats, two resonators, and a low restriction rear muffler with twin square outlets.

Phillip if ordering the strips, get the C class strips. Phil @ Partsshop can help you with them. They can be pressed on. you would need 16 strips to cover the rest of the grill. plus the original 6. so 22 in total.
Paint, get some good paint from a hobby store made for plastics and there are many colors to choose, I recommend the black. and use a clear coat that has the matte or semi gloss finish to help protect it. Geta good primer, and thoroughly clean the grill. Take your time, go slowly, and coat lightly and evenly with several good coats. The more coats of the black the better. Then at least two coats of clear, and you will have a nice fairly durable surface. - Clear coat might make it look hazy, so test it first of course. The key is to not put on too many coats that are thick and wet to prevent running. Follow paint directiongs properly. Alon

Thanks for the compliments!
I used clear cable ties to attach the extra strips and used some semi gloss black spray paint for the grill. The cable ties wrap around the extra horizontal strips at the centre of the grill by the vertical strip (If that makes any sense ). The grill housing will hold the other end of the strips on. The cable ties are only visible at very close range. The only problem I've had is that when you pop the hood, the handle tends to push one of the extra strips out of place, but that can be re-adjusted by hand.

This is for Mattman....first of all...awesome car! Where did you get the clear lens taillights? I see the front signals for sale everywhere, but haven't seen the taillights. I am still debating whether or not to do that. I don't know if I want to keep the factory look or go for a custom look. And how many KMs are on your car?
