Unhappy Reverse Problem

HELP!! My 1981 380 SEL was running fine until today!! I went to put it into reverse and it felt as if someone was standing on the brake as I was pressing on the accelarator!! I first thought it might be that the emergency brake was stuck on, but after putting the car up on a lift and putting it into neutral and spinning the wheels with no resistance i realized that was not the problem! Please help!! Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? It also feels like tha brakes are on when driving forward, but not as strongly. Any suggestions on where we should begin to look would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks
Oh and one more very important thing...when the car is in nuetral it moves forward like it's in drive. Some strange things going on with this car!!
