rear link connecting rod keeps breaking
I just replace a broken connecting rod with a new one after installing new hub carriers on my 1988 190E. The car drove fine for like 40 miles or so then I heard a clunk. The new connecting rod broke again!!!!!
What would contribute to such failure? The connecting rod is part 8a on this picture |

Did you use a OE MB part OR aftermarket China part?

I would replace those with ones from a 300TE. They are all metal. The only thing you'll need to do is shave bushing down a little bit so that it fits into the arm.
I snap one of these plastic ones once. ONCE. In a high speed turn. Not fun.

Thank you for the reply!
After further inspection, this turned out to be a false alarm. The noise sounded exactly as if the link was broken, just like the old one was making before. Upon further inspection I suspect the exhaust system in the rear is banging against the car or part of the subframe. I will try to look more carefully this weekend. Anyway, I suspected the torsion bar could have shifted hence pushed the link against the hub and broke the link that way. Luckily the sway bar is centered and its bushings are in place. |

I was gonna say..."breaking" the sway bar link is pretty tough thing to do, let alone twice....lol.
