What is correct needle position for temperature gauge?

First, thanks to this forum I have successfully repaired my odometer/tripmeter. The plastic gears on the side had lost teeth, in fact they crumbled into pieces when I removed them. Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice.

However, when I reinstalled the cluster I noticed that while everything worked the temp gauge needle is pointing almost straight down when the car is off and hardly goes above the lowest indicator even when I know the car is fully warmed (ie I hear the accessory fans turn on, etc). I think i may have shifted the needle when i was repairing the odometer and cleaning my cluster/dials while i had it disassembled.

I know what my engine temp normally is depending on time and outside temp, but for the life of me can't recall where the needle should be when the car is off! My memory is that its lower than the lowest tic mark but I can't be sure. There is no pin it rests on when off like there is for the fuel gage. Right now it points to about 7 o clock position when the car is off, which I know is lower than it was, but I am not sure up much lower.

Can anyone tell me where it should be and/or snap a fast picture of theirs when off? Its a 1992 w124 400e. Cluster is electronic (ie no mechanical speedo cable). Thanks.

Next up: replacing the ac vacuum pods...After the cluster why not? The air bag will be the biggest pain.
Christopher.

Thanks. It normally runs between 80 and towards the next higher mark (not numbered) i goes a bit higher when it's really hot (95 f degree plus Houston summers) and then the accessory fans kick on.

But I think I knocked the needle out of position accideny with r and r ing the uster and now it never gets higher than the lowest markings so I am looking for the resting position when the car is off so I can reposition it so it reads correctly when up to running temp.
