Car phone in a W124:which way to run antenna cable?
Hi,
Our laws changed as of yesterday (for the better) for using a cell phone in a car whilst driving or stationary. The handsets must be fixed in a commercially made cradle. I haven't installed a car kit since about 1990 nor in a Mercedes Benz. Would I be better to run the coaxial cable from the base unit mounted under the dash, to the antenna mounted on the back window via:- A) the roof lining? or B) should I run it down one of the rear quarter pillars, behind the rear seat and under the carpet to the front? I'm asking first before pulling pieces of trim off because after 18 years the plastic clips are very brittle and tend to break at the slightest pull. Thanks

You have a cell phone that has an antenna connection on it?

I would run the coax under the carpet following the wiring channels along the doors and up to the rear winow. We did a lot of police cars (with antennas on the roof) and usually fished them down the rear quarter panels.
I assume you are going to use an "on glass antenna" we used to come out of the box tuck under the head liner to the quarter panel and down under the carpet, crossing over the passenger side under the carpet into the console. "On glass" antennas usually dont have the coax connector installed, and yes does your hang up have antenna jack |
