Little plastic "window" on inside door?

Dear All

On the inside of the passenger door of my 300CE (RHD) there is a little plastic / perspex "window" flowing from the pocket binnacle. It is only a few centimeters big...

What is it's purpose?

Its a peep hole for your service booklet .
