howdy,

is it possible to fit a Gen2 w126 dash into a Gen1? anyone done it? if so, can you fit the glovebox from the Gen1 into the space of the passenger airbag?

Yes, I have looked into it but the Airbag is the problem. You may be able to put the dash in and keep the airbag to fill in the space. Using the glove box from the Gen 1 will require some fabrication work. I am just waiting for a Gen 2 dash in good shape that still has the glove box. I think that will work.

thanks for the info; i'd like to have a glovebox but if it's too much trouble i can just go without. i was just worried if the dash itself would actually fit

It can be done, I've done it. It's not a direct swap but if you lay both dashes out side by side you will be able to see the fabrication needed to get it installed. There's a bit more than the airbag that is different. If you're comfortable with a die grinder, tin snips, and a rivet gun, you should be able to mod the new style to fit
