Easy EPC Question

Time for the dumb question of the day. In EPC, which side of the car is "right", and which side is "left?"

As viewed sitting in the car looking forward. i.e. we have left hand drive cars in the US.

It is as you are sitting in the car, left is "drivers" side (well, on a left-hand drive car), and right is the passengers side

Thanks. That's what I would assume, but with those wacky Germans it's always best to check. I ordered a left side trim part, have the correct number from EPC, it's correctly tagged on the parts bag, and the bag contains the part for the right side of the car. I suppose it's not the first time that has happened.

Sometimes the number is on the part as well, if so you could compare what's on the bag and whats on the part.
Now it gets confusing sometimes. If you ordered a part for the seat for example you are dealing with the right or left seat, and then the right or left side of the seat (trim on the side of the backrest for example).

What's really confusing is the V12 engine like the M120, because aften a part for the left bank is on the right side of the car, like the throttle actuator for example, and vice-versa.

Thank Gilly, I'll check the part itself for a number. This is a simple case - it's the so-called escutcheon that tucks the seatbelt out of the way for the 3rd row seat in a wagon. So there's only the two of them, and they are mirror images of one-another. So realy no opportunity to confuse left/right and order the wrong piece.

As you get more familiar with part numbers (or sadder and sadder???!!!) you might find that you notice that the penultimate set of two numbers are the ones that usually change from one side of the vehicle to the other.

If you have EPC / google (eeek!) you can "dial" one number up or down to check to see if you get what you want for the other side...

I would think that the cars left and right should be as easy as it's front and rear.
