SRS reset, W126
Is there any way to reset the SRS (assuming it hasn't set code 10) without the Benz dealer's scanner? In the past, when I've replaced a bag that was deployed, I replaced the bag and controller to get around this....but I happen to have an extra bag around and no virgin controller.......
Car in question is a single-bag '90 300SEL. Any help would be appreiciated.... Thanks! Jim Steere Everything Automotive Crystal, MI |

Look at my article on evaluating engine controls in the DIY section. The impulse counting methods that are described apply to SRS in that model. Erasing the codes (EXCEPT CODE 10) will also follow the same rules.
If an airbag has been set off by a controller of that age the controller will have a code 10 set and have to be replaced. Later versions can be reset a given number of times (three I think).

AMAZING article. By George, 'yer right...
It had stored two codes.....the last being code 10, and it won't "clear".
Thanks again! Jim |
