S420 EGR VALVE NIGHTMARE

Good Morning all

My 1995 s 420 with 150k on the clock started to surge forward last week ,then cutting out ,then refusing to respond to the accelerator ,to stalling at traffic lights .

Once I got to the office I had it towed back the 20 miles I had just driven .

My mechanic is not a Merc mechanic but worked on it for me because I am a long standing customer of his shop and knew if I went to a Merc dealer I would have a hefty bill.

His diagnotic machine showed up "EGR VALVE"
Rather than replacing it ,he removed it completely and it drove fine for a day .

For the last few days it has gone form driving just fine ,to being a nightmare and acting just as badly as the morning it kept stalling ,jumping ,racing, cutting out etc ..as it did this morning .

I thought I got a smell of sulphur or something close to it today when it was doing its stop start and violent thrusting/stalling

I live in South Florida where the temp today is 72......sorrry

Advise and assistance will be greatly appreciated
Donal Dowling

its attached to your air filters. Most have a screen to protect them from Bugs. They get dirty and cause all kinds of havoc. They also wear out.

I would suggest you find an independent Benz mechanic in your area and let him take a look. There should be plenty to choose from. There is a "Recommended Repair Shops" section on this forum for your convenience.
