2000 E320 shuts down in reverse,when cold.

I have a 2000 E320 W210,that will die istantly ,if put in reverse after startup in cold weather. If I start the car in the morning and let it run for 1-2 minute, its fine,if I am in the hurry and engage the reverse 10 sec after start up,will shut down, and need to be restarted and let idle for one-two minutes or so.It happends every time in the cold, around freezing temps.

Sounds like a bad torque converter. I've seen a few of them and the symptoms are exactly as you describe.

Try backing into the garage at night.
