When did Benz resolve the wiring problem in the S class + s420 questions

Hi,
I own a 1995 S320, which I already replaced the engine wiring and throttlebody. Cars starting to run underpowered, thinking of just selling it.

I'm thinking of buying a S420 either 1998-99 if Benz had already stopped using the bad insulation wiring.

I also like to know if the 420's in these later years had any common problems?

Did the suspension come without the self level system?

Please post
Thank you
Lowflyingbird

As far as my experience with a 95 E300D I bought that had the replaced wiring harness - its still holding very well.

If you feel that the car is underpowered yet after replacing the wiring and everything checks out OK, test the errors (I dont know if your car can be interrogated and logs pulled - CAN BUS). The Electric throttle actuator can also go bad internally, it uses the same crumbly wiring inside it too.

A competent automotive electrician can rewire it if the PCB and its motor are good otherwise its a steep expense.

The engine wiring issues were resolved as of 01/1996 wiring harness production date.

The 1998-99 cars had no wiring harness issues.

W140 chassis always had a/c evaporator issues as well as front susp.

The S500 had leveling standard,

My 98 S500 no wiring or evap issues. My 96 S320 no engine wiring, or evap issues, but it does have wiring issue on the folding mirrors.

Have a 1998 S420. I read that in 2000 there was a recall for fan motors. Our ac seems to be cold but does not blow. Fan down or relay? Thanks
