16v oil t-stat?
Hi all,
Recently my 16v has begun to show higher and higher oil temps. This week it crossed into 120, and before it would seldom run above 80. The oil cooler seems to be cool to the touch after highway driving at these temps. I understand other models have thermostats for the oil cooler, could this be the source of my problems? Does my car have an oil t-stat? If so, where is it located, and how should I go about replacing it? All help is much appreciated, summer is approaching rapidly! Dan Rotigel |

Dan, yes the system has a thermostat! But it is a pain to replace as you must remove the oil filter housing.
The thermostat should start opening at 92C. The part number is 117-180-01-75 and lists for $27. Check Fastlane!! You will also need a new gasket # 102-184-09-80.
