oil level indicator

My oil level sending unit is leaking on my 1997 e-420. Can I pull wire off and plug hole without something falling into oil pan????

FYI: It is not safe to run without the oil pressure sensor = You assume all potential engine damage/destruction risk in doing this...

That said: Yes, it is possible. Generally MB# 0029973430 is a perfect fit.

I have several MB# 0029973430 tapped for various mechanical oil gauges = special diagnostic tools.

Thanks Hunter, Hows Detroit??? I visited in 1971. Its the oil level sensor that goes thru a hole in the side of the block. I was trying to plug hole to keep from dropping oil pan!!!

Sorry I misunderstood your question.
I have fabricated several aluminum blank off plates for the level sensor, due to Michigan corrosion.
Never had any issue with them.

I avoid Detroit as much as possible, for safety.
