Is my torque wrench broken?

I purchased a "Cal-Hawk 1/4" drive click torque wrench" from the local tool store. I haven't used it in a while so I followed the instructions and set it at the lowest torque setting and tried it out on a bolt. The tool would never "click"!! I tried it on a lug nut bolt on the car and it still will not "click". It is a $25 tool......could it be broken? If so, is it possible to repair it?

1/4" drive torque wrench

I think for small fasteners such as valve cover nuts on the M117 needing a 1/4" drive you are better off using a beam-type torque wrench. Your clicker may be working but is so soft you may not hear or feel it unless concentrating very hard.

I have a cheapie Taiwan one; it clicks very clearly even at 25 inch-lbs, but only when tightening. No click or movement when loosing.

i'm smiling thinking facetiously that you have a ft-lb wrench and you've stripped the threads of your in-lb fitting

I'd say to try it at a stronger setting and see if it clicks. Might just be too low a setting to feel the click.

FYI

This type does not break, it can be abused = lose calibration, but are easy to test/verify.

What might be your thoughts concerning a digital torque wrench versus a beam type torque wrench? They are price at around $100++.

Digital torque wrench, none have any warranty past one year.

Beam, Click or Dial torque wrenches are durable, one of mine is 65 years old with calibration still in spec.

Where to source for quality (what brand"(s)") and sizes of torque wrench(s) do I need to procure, to do glow plug, intake manifold, AND lug nut bolt torquing?

Torque wrench recommendations

Torque wrench, use it correctly or damage precision parts with brute force

Torque Wrenches, calibration, accuracy.

Torque to Yield Bolts

What must have tools and/or MB special do you own or need?
