Need advice on engine swap ( MB C180, w202)
Hello All and happy Easter holiday
Have a Mercedes C180 w202, 1997 that now has a 1.8 lt petrol engine. have come to the part where I would like to change engine as the engine has gone 420000 km, and it has maybe seen it last days soon, and to get the engine overhauled would cost some so then thought to get a bigger engine for the car. Have been looking on getting C32 or C43 engine and wonder if any have some expertise witch of the engine that would fit best in a C180? Also got an offer to buy a Mercedes m119 motor from R129 500SL. So any advice would be nice of what I can put in as an engine, without to much rebuilding of the engine room. |

I dunno if you could easily fit M119, it is bigger than a whole C 180 car
even the M113 of C 43 is a big engine in a very little space. Also it takes like 15 L / 100 km in winter. But you will like it by comparison C 32 engine is easy swap, but am not sure of necessary work for engine mountings. |

I understand the M119 is a big engine, but to say it is as big as the whole C180 station wagon, would not be right Have read on internet that the C32 would be the best fit in a C180, but as I see the C32 also have round headlights as the c180 has square. So then the shape of the front may not be the same, but C43 from 1997-1999 looks very alike the 1997 C180. Here in Norway it would be the only C180 with a V8 engine, but I am sure there are people on this forum that has some knowledge about swaping engines on MB. Have a donor car I can get for USD 4000,- that is in good condition and just to register, but because of the customs taxes here it would be USD 29.000,- to register it on Norwegian plates. So then its better to get the donor car and swap the things you need. Only thing is if the swap then for a C43 would mean heavy changes modifications in the engine room? |
