That said, do you like this car and if the body, seat, and windows were repaired would you be happy keeping it? If so, find a replacement fender and have the front clip painted. Shouldn't be too pricey.

Neither of my W123's are daily drivers. If I had the money I would fix all of the rust on both cars and keep them for a long time but I don't.

I may try to learn to do some bodywork myself on the 280E since I can't make it much worse. If it wasn't for the front clip it would be a very solid car. At any rate both cars are running great for the time being so I am going to enjoy driving them while I can.

Well on my way home from the gym today I noticed a very strong gas smell and I was hoping it was the very nice Fox Mustang I was following but alas it was me. Something is leaking around the fuel pump under the car. I haven't had the time to crawl under to investigate further but it was very wet with gas...

The fuel system on the 280E is going to be a little more complicated than the 240D due to the pump, filter, accumulator, vent valve, and main feed line at the tank. If any of these hoses need replacing, I suggest you do all of them plus the filter and have done with it. In the end youŽll be happy you did.

It's on my list after today. Earlier in the week I determined the leak was from the banjo line between the filter and fuel pump and when I replaced it this afternoon I noticed how rotted all of the other lines were. Thankfully most look like off the shelf lines unlike the one I just replaced which I got from the dealer since the price was the same as here at pelican plus I wouldn't have to wait a week for shipment.

Snapped these pictures last weekend when I went out for a nice cruise. This car is simply amazing. It is such a nice cruiser. I would have laughed if you ever told me I would own a gasser W123 but now I am smitten by the sirens song of the M110 :D

Lookin' good in DE

Great setting. Looks like you took her deep in the woods. That rail line looks abandoned. So how many times have you pulled up to the diesel pump with your 280? Car looks great.

Not yet but I have received a few funny looks at the gas pump from another W123 driver who panicked when he thought i was putting gas in my diesel. It did make for a nice conversation about these cars though.

Many of the "custom" fuel lines can be replaced with off the shelf fuel line. Cut the rubber off the custom fuel line and there is often a barbed end long enough to allow you to slide the new fuel line on and clamp tight.

I looked at doing that with the old hose but one of the banjo fittings was not long enough to connect a new hose. I did keep the one fitting that did so at least i have enough to make a new hose when this one dies in another 30 years ;)

Ok M110 owners what is "normal" oil pressure on these engines? Mine sits right at 15psi at warm idle.

Actually yes I do use it. Its not perfect but it keeps me legal in Delaware since cell phones are not legal for use while driving.

That was the reason for the picture. I was stopped at a red light after dropping the kids off at school and thought it looked cool :D

I'm jealous. I would love to have two such 123s in my garage. Especially red ones. The entry level and the ultimate side by side. At least in terms of what was sold in the US. I'd say your oil pressure is a tad on the low side from what I remember from my 280S though that was so long ago I can't really remember exactly. I think Mercedes does say that it can be at 15 when idling hot.
