Just Bought 1998 E320 Need Help With Codes
Hi All,
I just bought a 1998 E320 and I have been fixing issues all day. New brake switch cured ASR - Skid Control error and cruise control now works I have a check engine light and the display reads Engine Electronics. I replaced the A 1121400312 Air Intake Boot because it was completely broken thinking that it would cure the problem. It did not so I went to Pep Boys and had them read the codes. I'm not sure if these are old codes or new codes or both. In fact I know nothing about code reading. Does anyone have any advice as to what to do/try next? P0130 O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) P0136 O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) P0141 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) P0150 O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1) P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1) P0173 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 2) Thanks for your help. |
I would suggest that you buy an inexpensive OBD scanner (<$50). Then erase all the codes, drive for a few days and then rescan.
Assuming you have the same codes (unlikely) it looks like you need to replace the O2 sensors which is common at about 100K miles and also the MAF sensor. I would start with the MAF to be sure it isn't triggering the O2 sensor errors. Be sure to get the exact right Bosch MAF. Avoid the really cheap deals on eBay which are usually clones or VW sensors which are designed for a smaller engine. It comes as an insert or for a few dollars more with the inline housing. Running with a bad MAF causes the catalytic convertors to overheat (too rich a mixture) resulting in a meltdown. |

Fixed
Thanks for your replies. They gave me the confidence to reset the codes by disconnecting the battery. After an hour of driving still no check engine light. Still will be good to have the code reader anyway for future issues.
Thanks again for your help. |
