Fan shroud removal on 320CDI W210 , year 2000.
Hello everybody.
I need to remove the fan shroud in order to change the belt and inspect for potential leaks. I tried a search and could not find anything successfull. Is there any trick to take away this shroud? There is definitively very little room Thanks for help |
If you have a viscous clutch fan, you need to remove the fan. This is done with two long thin wrenches. One for the hub nut (~36mm?) and a spanner for the nuts on the end of the pulley. I got mine from zdmak.com (ebay) but maybe PeachParts has them as well. Once the fan is off the end of the shaft you can lift it out and then remove the shroud.
I see you are in France so here's what they look like - http://zdmak.com/wbstore/main.asp?action=PROD&PROD=M86-36WR&CTMP=1 |
Thank you veru much RichardM98 for this very quick and usefull reply.
I may try to manufacture the tools. Would you have by chance their dimensions, Regards |

The tools I have a aluminum alloy (6061?) which is 6mm thick. The standard 36mm open end wrench is 380mm long.
The spanner is 410mm long and the holes are 12mm in diameter and on a 56mm circle. The center opening is a 40mm circle. There is a 12mm dog leg (offset) on the spanner handle. The wrenches are close together on the hub so the offset provides some room when holding them. Actually you might get away with only the 36mm wrench. If the serpentine belt is tight enough to keep the pulley from slipping. Here is a image of the spanner. |
Once again
Thank you very muche RichardM96 for all these information. Everything is cristal clear . Regards. P.S the members of this forum are FANTASTIC |
